Takoradi, May 8-GNA-The Takoradi Branch of the Public Services Workers Union has congratulated all women on the celebration of the Mother's Day, which falls on Sunday May 8.
In a message signed by Mr. George A. Naykene, Branch Chairman, the Union said the value of working mothers in the formal and informal sector of the labour market was enormous.
It said women's roles as workers, mothers, and home managers should be commended, supported and given the necessary boost to make them more efficient and creative in all spheres of life. The message continued that working mothers in the various workplaces should be assisted to enjoy their full maternity leave with pay, annual leave, study leave and other privileges and benefits associated with their employment.
It said the new labour law frowns on labour practices that are inimical to the development and growth of the workingwomen in her workplace and all efforts must be made to fulfil this aspiration. The message called on Parliament to, without any further delay pass the Domestic Violence Bill into law and thereby assist women to freely report abuses in any form to the appropriate agencies. It said that working women should not be discouraged when fighting for their rights but rather they should be encouraged to make meaningful contributions towards national growth.
