Takoradi, March 11, GNA - The Western Regional Fire Service Command on Wednesday organised a simulation exercise to boost the combat readiness of personnel to respond to the frequent fire outbreaks and road accidents in the area. The exercise was also aimed at sharpening the skills of the personnel to compete with their counterparts at the National Extrication Challenge to be held in Accra in April this year. In February this year, a fatal accident occurred at the Beposo brigde in the region, killing two people on the spot and injuring fire personnel on duty.

The Regional Fire Commander, Mr Stephen Cobbina noted that the rescue of fire and accident victims required professional handling in order not to worsen the condition of victims.

He therefore entreated the public to critically study the country's emergency numbers and call the Ghana National Fire Service when such incidents occur.

The Regional Commander urged fire personnel to adopt special precautionary measures when attending to emergencies to avoid harm in the process.

To mitigate the menace of roads accidents in the region, Mr Cobbina said his outfit was collaborating with stakeholders to embark on educational out reach programme.

He advised the participating personnel to sustain the exercise so that they excel in the national competition and finally qualify for a global exercise to be held in Ireland later in the year.
