Winkogo, (UE), July 10, GNA- The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Talensi Constituency in the Upper East Region, Mr. John Akologo Tia has donated sports items worth about 32 million cedis to the Bolgatanga Senior Secondary School (Big BOSS) on Tuesday.

The items which included 15 pairs of football boots, two footballs and a set of jerseys comes from the MP's share of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Mr Tia said his donation is to support the school for not only its academic excellence but for also performing excellently in sporting activities. He said the school's recent success at the Inter-Schools Milo Championship Games when it came tops and qualified to represent the Upper East Region at the national level at Sunyani is worthy of commendation.

He appealed to the students to strive higher by combining their academic work with sports since that would give them a broader outlook in life and brighten their chances in life. "As students, your future depends on how you hard you work while at school and you must therefore not play with your studies", he said. The Headmaster of the School, Mr Francis Avongsige, on behalf of the staff and students thanked the MP and said the donation was timely and had come as a relief since the school lacked sports equipment. He assured the MP that the items would be put to good use and said the school would now be more determined to put in extra effort to win more laurels at the national Milo Games.

Mr Avongsige commended the MP for his donation for his continued support of the school, and appealed to other stakeholders and corporate bodies to emulate the shinning example to also contribute towards supporting the development of the school. In another development, Mr. Tia also donated another consignment of sports items valued at about 7.5 million cedis to the Talensi District football Team, also from his share of the MP's Common Fund to promote sports in the District. 10 July 07
