Kumasi, Oct. 10, GNA- The Talensi and Nabdam community in the Ashanti Region have appealed to Otumfuo Osei-Tutu 11, the Asantehene, to intervene and call to order the leadership of the Gorong community. The Gorong community are thought to be behind the current rumpus among the Frafra natives residing in the Ashanti Region.
The leadership of the Gorong community, an integral part of the Frafra tribe, has been accused of deliberately stalling the efforts of the leadership of the Frafras.
The Frafras are customarily mandated to decide, which of its component groups is responsible to choose and install a new leader, who would be responsible for their welfare in the Region.
A press statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday and signed by Mr Ahmed Maalog, Regional Secretary of the Talensi and Nabdam community explained that the Frafra tribe was a heterogeneous ethnic group comprising Talensis, Nabdams, Gorongs and the Bongos.
The release said the right to choose a leader for the migrant tribesmen rotated among them and it was now the turn of the Talensis and Nabdams since the Gorongs have had the chance to choose the leader for six consecutive times.
"In fact, the Gorongs have had the chance to be leaders for six consecutive times" the release stressed, adding that the elders of the Frafra community consequently, decided that the baton changes to the Talensis and Nabdams to enable them exercise that mandate as well. The release said problems emanating from the proper rotation for the choice of leadership called for the drawing of a legal constitution to bring sanity into that exercise, and the Frafra leadership were tasked to do that.
It is therefore regrettable that even before the constitution could be drawn, the leaders of the Gorong went ahead to install a new leader against the wishes of the larger Frafra group in Ashanti, the release said This action by the Gorongs, the statement said, was a recipe for chaos, violence and disaster and therefore appealed to the Asantehene to call the misguided elements to order for peace to prevail within the Frafra community.
