Doctors of the Tamale Teaching Hospital have called off their strike which was to take effect from today Monday May 23.

The doctors served notice on Friday May 20 of their intention to withdraw their services beginning Monday, over their unpaid fuel allowances.

According to them, management had failed to fulfil its promise of paying the accumulated arrears after a similar intended strike was suspended on April 20, 2016.

The Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Misbaw Mohammed, however, told Class News Monday the allowances were paid on Thursday May 19 but did not reflect in their accounts.

“On Thursday, the payment had been made [but] unfortunately for most of our doctors who do not hold accounts with the [bank] where our cheque was issued, they have to wait till today or tomorrow to get their accounts credited with the money. But not [having] that information was the reason they were declaring a strike. But, fortunately, we have explained to them and they have seen the truth in it. For that reason the strike did not come off,” he said.
