Tamale Teaching Hospital's oxygen plant temporarily shuts down due to technical issues

The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), a crucial referral facility serving five northern regions of Ghana, is currently experiencing a disruption in oxygen supply due to technical issues.

On Monday, July 1, 2024, the hospital's oxygen plant shut down due to engine damage, resulting in a severe limitation of oxygen availability.

The Public Relations Officer, Mr. Zuberu Alidu, informed Citi News that a team of technical experts is currently working to resolve the issue, but no timeline for repair has been confirmed.

He reassured the public that the situation is being managed and urged calm.

"A critical component of the oxygen plant was damaged, which has led to a halt in production and supply. Currently, we are working with suppliers, primarily in Kumasi, as local options in the Northern region are unable to meet our oxygen needs," he stated.

"We currently have sufficient resources and are in close communication with referring facilities, especially the Ghana Health Service, to ensure that we can accommodate incoming referrals."
