Tamale Youth slam burglary at Teaching Hospital

The Concerned Citizens Association of Tamale (CCAT) has expressed concern about the increasing rate of theft in the Neurosurgical Unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and called for immediate investigations.

Mr Basharu A. Daballi, President of the Association said in a statement issued in Tamale that the group is committed to assist the Ministry of Health (MoH) in insulating the hospital against diabolic activities of individuals who paraded and disguised themselves as staff.

He said many citizens in the region had been alarmed at the increasing rate of missing equipment at the neurosurgical unit of the hospital. He claimed that some staff of the hospital offloaded oxygen cylinders meant for use in the hospital from a hospital pickup to a vulganizer.

He said issues of institutional misconduct and savagery against the collective interests of the group as citizens of the region had to stop.

Mr Daballi commended the authorities of the hospital for putting in efforts to get to the bottom of the matter, adding that the group is, however, not satisfied with the endeavour.

He appealed to the MoH to consider dissolving the hospital’s governing board and compel the Chief Executive Officer to resign so as to pave way for proper investigation into the matter.

He also urged the ministry to transfer all staff who had worked in the hospital for more than seven years, saying “There should be a strong resolution at instilling discipline in the hospital’s administration”.

Gabriel Nii Otu Ankrah, Public Relations Officer of the TTH in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said management has handed over the matter to the law enforcement agencies to investigate and ensure that the culprits are arrested. He commended the CCAT for its watchdog role to help ensure sanity in the hospital.
