The Speaker of Parliament has formally declared the Tamale Central seat in Parliament vacant.
Speaker Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes made the declaration after he read out a formal letter to him from Professor Wayo Seini informing him of his resignation.
Prof. Wayo Seini resigned his seat as MP for Tamale Central and a member of the National Democratic Congress in parliament on Thursday.
Prof. Seini cited lack of internal democracy in the NDC as one of his reasons for resigning.
The declaration by the Speaker paves the way for the electoral commission to start preparations for the conduct of a bye-election in the area.
Meanwhile the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Nana Ohene Ntow says the party has not received any formal notification of a defection from the NDC MP for Tamale Central Professor Wayo Seini who crossed carpet to the party and resigned from parliament on Thursday.
The ruling New Patriotic Party says it has not received any formal notification of a defection from the NDC MP for Tamale Central Professor Wayo Seini who crossed carpets to the party and resigned from parliament on Thursday.
Speaking on Joy FM?s current Affairs Programme, Front Page the party?s General Secretary Nana Ohene Ntow said the NPP would welcome Professor Seine into its fold and give him a role depending on the overeaters he makes.
He however did not rule out the fact that some members of the party will be suspicious of Professor Seini?s return.
? Naturally I am sure that some people might say that look, you guys must remember Innusah, you guys must remember this one so I think naturally there could be some suspicions in certain quarters but I think what will be most important will be the party?s official position which, we as leaders can carry across to the rank and file.
If it is the party?s decision that let?s welcome our prodigal brother back, then we will also make an effort,? he said.
