Task Force Arrests Immigrants

The Joint Military/Police Task Force, operating in the Northern Region on Wednesday arrested 20 illegal Togolese immigrants indulging in Galamsey operations in Ghana.

A statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and signed by Major E. A. Quarshie, Director of Public Relations said the immigrants had been handed over to the Police and Immigration authorities for further action, while a search is underway to arrest 10 other members of the group.

In Kumasi the Task Force arrested an armed robber at Buoho while three others escaped arrest. The robbers had earlier attacked a house at Adum where they seized one pump action gun, a lady's bag, a mobile phone and an amount of 450,000 cedis from their victims.

Adams were arrested and handed over to the Offinso- Kintampo Police for investigations. It said the team operating in Tamale, seized one US-made revolver with 17 rounds of ammunition from one Stephen Asare of the Precious Minerals Commission (PMC) and Solomon Zougagrana, while a Burkinabe national is in custody in connection with the seized revolver. Additionally the team also arrested George Kawugu for possessing an unregistered locally manufactured pistol.

Meanwhile Yussif Alhassan from Ejura was also arrested with 170 pieces of explosives, the items, which weighed 25kg, were concealed in an Accra-Bawku bound bus and the suspect has been handed over to the Police.

The Military-cum-Forestry task force has also arrested a number timber trucks carrying illegal logs.
