Senior High Schools in the country will battle it out in local dishes cooking contest aimed at improving nutrition and healthy lifestyle.
The competition organised by Cliff Media Consult is dubbed "Tasty Tom High School Kitchen" is under the theme; "Home Economics for sustainable job creation and healthy lifestyle for Ghana.
At the launch on Tuesday held at Lucas College in Dzorwulu, Accra, the organisers revealed that the event would commence on October 6, in the Eastern Region.
It will take place at Okuapenman Senior High School, which would be followed by that of the Central Region on October 13, at Mfantsiman Girls School.
The third phase would be that of the Greater Accra Region, where schools in the Region battle it out for the bragging right at Labone Senior High on October 20.
After the Regional competitions, the final is expected to take place at Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua, on October 27 and 28, amidst musical performances.
Addressing the gathering, the President of Ghana Home Economics Association, Dr.Enyonam Kudonoo, lauded the organisers for such a competition to promote local dishes and embed entrepreneurship drive in Home Economics students.
She therefore urged the students to be alert and take advantage of the various opportunities available to them in the profession.
Dr.Kudonoo noted that the current local dishes served is becoming a shadow of the past, and there was the need to champion to cooking of nutritious local foods to improve healthy living.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer, of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, Oheneba Akua Manfo, said the competition was in line with the "Eat Ghana" campaign launched by her outfit.
According to her, the various stakeholders should get involved in the programme since it goes a long way to inculcate in students cooking of local dishes and promised her full support.
Oheneba Akua Manfo, further urged the students who would be take part in the programme to be more creative in bringing out new ideas in cooking.
Additionally, the President of the Ghana Tourism Federation, Okatakyie Nana Anin, on his part urged Ghanaians to help promote local dishes.
That he said had the tendency to attract tourists to improve socio economic development of the country.
A reprentative of Tasty Tom, Maame Ama Afful, said their objective for sponsoring the programme was to help students better their understanding of nutrition and wellness through proper cooking.
She added that they also aim at giving Home Economics a future and help champion the "Eat Ghana" agenda.
This year's marked the second edition of the programme which started in 2016.
