Tattoo designer remanded for robbery

A tattoo designer, Hakim Abubakar, was on Tuesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for robbery.

Hakim was alleged to have robbed one Abigail Kyerewaa of Ghc200.00 and one Nokia mobile phone worth Ghc300.00, at North Kaneshie, near Holy Trinity Hospital in Accra.

The accused person pleaded not guilty in a court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri, but is to reappear on May 20.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh told the court that the complainant Abigail Kyerewaa is a student of Zenith College, and resides at North Kaneshie while the accused person resides at New Town.

He said on May 8, at about 2130 hours, the complainant and one other Winifred Allotey, a witness in the case, went to Holy Trinity Hospital area to buy food.

He said on their way back, Hakim and one other person, now at large, riding an un-registered motor bike armed with a sharp knife confronted them and robbed the complainant of the amount and the phone.

The prosecution said the witness run to the roadside and saw a police patrol vehicle being driven by Lance Corporal Kwakye Marfo, stopped him and pleaded with him to come to their aid as they are being attacked by armed robbers.

DSP Morkeh told the court that the accused person and his accomplice on seeing the police vehicle sped off with their motorbike, but were given a chase by the police man, who caught up with them at Fadaman where he hit a portion of the motorbike and they fell off it.

He said one of them managed to escape, but with the assistance of neighbours, the accused person was arrested with the mobile phone, as well as the knife.
