Accra, June 12, GNA - Sadick Kofi Boadi Dorman, 32, a driver at Taifa, was on Monday, sentenced to one year's imprisonment by an Accra Community Tribunal for stealing a Hyundai Excel taxi cab valued at nine million cedis.

He pleaded guilty to the charge. Prosecuting police Inspector Michael Asamoah told the court presided over by Mrs Sraha Ankomah that on May 29, the taxicab was given to Sadick to drive because the regular driver was indisposed.

Sadick was not seen until two days later when he appeared and told the car owner Yaw Acheampong Kawlo that some three armed soldiers had snatched the car from him on the Akatsi-Abor road in the Volta Region. Not believing Sadick's story, Acheampong handed him over to the Achimota Mile Seven Police.

This was followed by media announcements of the theft. The Akrofuom Unit Committee, near Dunkwa on Offin later found the car abandoned in the bush without its number plate and besmeared with dirty oil.

The car was later handed over to Dunkwa-on -onffin Police. Investigations disclosed that Sadick, a native of the village transported the car to Akrofuom, besmeared it with dirty oil, removed its number plate and hid it in the bush and returned to inform the owner that the car had been snatched from him.

After the recovery, Sadick admitted the offence. The court ordered that the car should be released to its owner.
