Nicholas Teye, the teacher at the center of assault incident at the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in Adenta, has reacted to the court’s ruling on the matter.

The Adenta Circuit Court on Monday, March 30, 2026, ruled that each student is fined an amount of GH¢4,000 in addition to signing a bond of good behaviour.

Speaking to the media after the ruling, Teye said he had expected the students to be jailed for at least two years.

He further disclosed that prior to the ruling, the students had told him the case would not amount to anything, a statement he now believes has been confirmed by the outcome of the case.

“I initially thought those involved were going to be jailed for two years, but instead they were made to sign a bond of good behaviour. It was their parents who influenced this outcome. The children even told me to my face that the case was not going anywhere, and indeed nothing was done to them. This confirms what they said, and it has deeply hurt me. They struck me on the head with a stick and hit my back as well,” he told Adom News.

The case stems from an incident which occurred in February 2026 on the WASS campus, where Teye was attacked after a confrontation with one of the students reportedly escalated.

The assault drew widespread attention and condemnation from education stakeholders, particularly teacher unions, who expressed concerns about rising indiscipline and safety within schools.

Teye, who sustained injuries during the attack, is reported to be recovering.

Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and other educators attended court in a show of solidarity with Teye.
