Tema, April 21, GNA- A teacher who capitalised on his acquaintance of the parents of a student in his class at Agomeda Junior Secondary School to defy the girl has been remanded by the Tema Circuit Court "B". Derry Meteku pleaded not guilty to a charge of defilement of a student aged 14.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on May 29, 2003, at about 19:30 hours, the student after finishing her house-hold chores, decided to go and watch an out-door film that was being shown to the public by the Bible Society of Ghana.
She said on her way, the victim spotted somebody in the darkness and took to her heels.
According to the prosecution the girl heard her name called by a familiar voice, which she later identified as that of her class teacher, so she stopped.
Her teacher held her hands to accompany him to her mother who was also a teacher.
The prosecution said mid-way the teacher took a different direction towards his house and the victim questioned where he was taking her. Chief Inspector Nutakor said the teacher told her that they would see something and come back, adding that he took her to their school premises where he sexually assaulted her on a staircase.
The following day, the victim bled from her private part until June 9, 2003, when she revealed her ordeal to her father who in turn made a report to the police and Meteku was arrested The prosecution said the police issued a medical report to the victim for treatment at Dodowa Health Centre and later to the Police Hospital in Accra.
