Accra, Jan. 23, GNA - A teacher at Accra High Secondary School, who stabbed his wife and attempted to commit suicide, was on Friday put before an Accra Circuit Court.
Wilfred Yao Nume Kevor, 47, pleaded guilty to unlawfully causing harm and attempting to commit suicide.
The court presided over by Mr G. N. Mintah granted him a 50-million-cedis bail with one surety to re-appear on February 10. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Helen Sarpomah told the court that on January 11, Lily Hadjor the wife, had a misunderstanding over a stepson with her husband.
Prosecution said Kevor insisted that, he did not want the son to stay with them but the wife disagreed.
Chief Inspector Sarpomah said accused threatened that he would stab the wife if she brought the stepson to the house after which he would take his own life.
Prosecution said on January 12, Hadjor brought her controversial stepson home thinking that the accused was joking with his utterances. Chief Inspector Sarpomah said Hadjor's action sparked off a quarrel between her and the husband, resulting in the accused pulling a cutlass and stabbing the wife on her right hand side.
Prosecution said Kevor drank what was supposed to be a poisoned concoction and believing that he was going o die wrote a note that his wife should hld responsible or his death.
Chief Inspector Sarpomah said Kevor was, however, rushed to the Police Hospital in Accra where his life was saved.
