Teacher jailed for possessing examination papers

Accra Nov. 9, GNA- An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced a 42-year- old teacher to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for illegally possessing five of this year's November-December Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) question papers. Erasmus Sowah Anyeitey who pleaded guilty would also pay a fine of 500,000 cedis in default go to jail for another one year.

The case as presented by Chief Inspector Rebecca Nugbemadu was that the complainants were officials of West African Examination Council (WAEC) at Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region.

Prosecution said during this year's November and December SSSCE examination held for private students, some students were arrested at Nungua, Presec and Centres at Madina Social Welfare with some leaked papers.

Some candidates were also arrested at some centres in Accra with other question papers for the subsequent days.

Prosecution said after series of interrogation, Anyeitey's name was mentioned by some of the candidates as the source. Chief Inspector Nugbemadu said Anyietey was traced to his house and he was arrested at Amasaman.

Prosecution said even though he admitted selling some question papers such as Elective Mathematics, Business Management, English Language, Geography and History to some candidates, he failed to disclose his source.
