Teacher remanded for SSSCE leakage

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA - A 23-year-old teacher alleged to be behind the leakage of this year's Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) papers was on Wednesday remanded by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Seth Kwame Quayson was arrested on Monday when he paid a visit to his father Mr Kingsley Quayson, a 54- year old caretaker of the Axim Castle who had been remanded by the court for the same offence.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Abavelim told the court about their intention to consolidate the docket with a new one. According to him, the police would demand the discharge of Kingsley since his son had confessed to the crime.

His plea was not taken and the facts and charges preferred against the accused were not read.

The court presided over by Mrs Elizabeth Ankomah remanded the accused and adjourned the case to Thursday, August 12, to enable the prosecution to consolidate the two dockets.

On August 9, Kingsley Quayson and Anthony Cudjoe, a 20-year-old student of Half Assini Senior Secondary/Technical School were arraigned at the court for their involvement in the leakage of the SSSCE papers. The Court remanded them because investigations were ongoing. The Court discharged two officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Nuko Peter Assevor and Mr Bernard Arthiabah who had custody of the keys to the West African Examination Council's Depot in Axim. This was after the Police had informed the Court of new developments in the case and asked for the withdrawal of the charges preferred against them.

Prosecution told the Court that the Police found out that the ceiling of the Axim Depot had been broken through but the doors of the Depot were intact.

According to prosecution the Police found out that the person entered the ceiling from the Axim Castle, where Quayson worked.
