Agona Swedru, Aug 20, GNA - A 42- year- old teacher at the Awutu Stars Preparatory School at Awutu Bawjiase has been remanded in prison custody by the Swedru Circuit Court for defiling five schoolgirls. Kwame Antwi-Bonsiako pleaded not guilty to all the five counts and would reappear on 13th September 2004.

Detective Sergeant R A Boamah told the Court presided over by Mr Robert K K Asaase that the five girls between the ages of six and 12 attended the Awutu Bawjiase D/A, Methodist, Presbyterian and Anglican primary schools.

He said the victims who stayed in the same vicinity had been watching television in the room of the accused every day. According to Detective Sergeant Boamah, whenever the girls went to watch television, the accused would send them on errands leaving one he would defile.

He told the court that after defiling his victims, the accused cautioned them not to tell their parents warning them that he would kill them if they reported.

The prosecution said that on August 9, 2004, when the girls gathered to go and watch Television, one of the victims declared her intention not to honour the request of the accused if he should send them on an errand.

When the mother of one of the girls wanted to know why, she spilled the beans.

Detective Sergeant Boamah stated that when the mothers of the five girls confronted the accused, he accepted his guilt and offered to compensate them, which was rejected.

A report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested at his hide out on August 13, 2004 and charged with the offence. The accused told the court that he was under the influence of Satan when he committed the offence.

Detective Sergeant Boamah tendered medical reports indicating that the virginity of the victims had been broken.
