A form two student of the Presbyterian Junior High School in Wa in the Upper West Region has been tortured by his teacher for making excessive noise.

The student sustained major cuts on his knees when he was made to kneel and follow it with crawling on the ground while at the same time receiving strokes on his back from the said mathematics teacher, one Mr Ahmed.

The student (name withheld), narrating his ordeal, said the incident took place at about noon on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, following his attempt to close a window through which the sun was reflecting on him and the mathematics teacher, who was sitting outside, called him out and made him to go on his knees and crawl.

The victim was issued a police medical form to seek medical attention at the Upper West Regional Hospital after he and his friends went to the health facility and were asked to go for police medical form before they could attend to him.

The mathematics teacher and the assistant head teacher of the school were invited to the regional police command last Thursday morning for their statements and the police have since commenced investigations into the matter.

In an interview with Starr News’ Morris Banaamwine, a guardian of the victim, who gave his name as Mr Gaazienye, revealed that the assistant headmaster of the school threatened him and the student and questioned why they reported the case to the police without referring it to the school authorities.

He added that the school authorities had asked him to withdraw the case from the police station or the child would suffer the consequences.

The school authorities, when contacted, declined to comment on the matter. The act has been condemned by a number of teachers and health workers who were at the hospital during the dressing of the wounds.

The Wa Municipal Education Office is yet to comment on the issue.
