Teachers of Mim Senior High school (SHS) in the Asunafo North Municipality of Brong Ahafo Region, have declared an indefinite strike in protest against series of attacks on teachers by the community folks.

They have vowed not to teach the students until something is done about the security situation indicating that they have constantly been attacked by residents for reasons unknown.

The Secretary of the Teaching staff at Mim SHS, Mr Emmanuel Zongah told Accra-based Oman FM that they fear for their lives and so would not go and to teach again until their security is guaranteed by the District Directorate of Education.

According to him, anytime a student does something and is punished, he or she goes home and complain to their parents and they mobilize community members and they come to the school to attack the teacher in question.

He said this has been going on for a while and so they cannot allow that to continue

“We are fed up of their beatings…We can’t teach their children.

“We fear to go to the classroom because they can come to the classrooms to beat. We are scared,” he added.

Mr Zongah said they have dispatched letters to the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders informing them about their decision warning that until something drastic happens they are not prepared to call off their strike.
