Teachers turn up in numbers for Independence Day Anniversary in Ho

Ho, March 6, GNA - Teachers in Ho on Sunday honoured the 54th Independence Day Anniversary Parade despite earlier threats of boycott in protest against their placement on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS)= .. The teachers, who turned up in their numbers, marched along with their respective schools in a march past described by the Regional Minister= , Mr Joseph Amenowode as 93my best ever march past."

The Anniversary was on the theme, 93Discipline and Hardwork; Essential prerequisites for a Better Ghana."

Mr Amenowode who took the salute and reviewed the parade commended the teachers for honouring the event.

"I would like to commend our teachers for putting patriotism ahead o= f self and coming out with their students to commemorate our nation's independence anniversary," he said.

Mr Amenowode re-assured the teachers of government's commitment to address bottlenecks associated with the migration of teachers on to the SSS= S and urged them to exercise some restrain. He noted that the nation was facing serious challenges with regard to discipline and charged the populace especially children to uphold the virtues of discipline by eschewing tendencies likely to put their future in jeopardy.

Togbe Palmas, Deputy Volta Regional Physical Education (P.E) Coordinator in charge of organization who spoke to the GNA said the attendance of teachers was to demonstrate their commitment to the national course. "We are doing this not for anybody but for our beloved nation, Ghan= a," he said.

Three contingents made up of Mawuko Girls Police Cadet, Mawuli School Army Cadet and Ola Senior High School Naval Cadet took part in the well attended parade under the command of Master Asiwome Alfred Dikro. A Total of 28 primary, Junior and Senior High Schools participated in the march past with brass band music from the Regional Police Band and Sain= t Cecilia Parish Band.

Ola Naval Cadet emerged winners in the Cadet category with Mawuko Girls Police Cad et, Mawuli School Army Cadet coming second and third respectively.

Mawuko Girls came first in the SHSs march past category followed by Mawuli and Sonrise SHSs in that sequence. Denu-Fiave JHS won the JHS category while Ho-Kpoanyigba came second and Ho Barracks, third.

The first position for the primary category went to Volta Barracks, second to Sonrise and third to Christ the Prince of Peace. Police Wives Association, 66 Artillery Wives Association, Traders Association and personnel of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a Waste Management Company also took part in the march past. 06 Mar. 11
