Techiman South NDC holds Congress

Techiman (B/A), Aug. 15, GNA - The Techiman South Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has held its delegates congress at Techiman to elect officers to run the party for the next four years.

The election, conducted and supervised by the Techiman Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr George Gyabaah, saw Alhaji Nashiru Yusufu retaining his seat as constituency chairman with 187 votes as against 18 votes by Mr Mohammed Hassan Mahama.

The post of organizer went to Mr Mumuni Saaka Adams who polled 145 votes, beating Mr Charles Ampofo who had 65 votes. The position of youth organiser went to Mr Sulemana Owusu with 82 votes, defeating his challenger, Mr Bismarck Kofi Kyeremeh who scored 15 votes.

The rest of the executives including the First and Second Vice-chairman, Nana Asuo Minta and Mr Baba Iddi were all returned unopposed while the secretary, Mr Boakye Ameyaw also had no contender. The rest were Assistant Organizer, Mr James Osei-Kwabena, Treasurer, Madam Grace Boakye, Assistant Youth Organiser went to Gabriel Attipo, Women Organizer, Mary Bebrriel, with Janet Ohenewaa as the Assistant Women 0rganizer.

Addressing the delegates, Mr Addai Simons, Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South assured the people that he and MP for Techiman North Mr Alex Kyeremeh would work hard to ensure the reconstruction of the Techiman Market that had been abandoned since the NDC left power. Mr Simon said the market was the economic mainstay of the people and that its present conditions did not promote commercial activity that the area was noted for.

He urged the party functionaries to close their ranks and work together devoid of rancour petty squabbles that would derail the aspiration and unity of the party in the constituency.

Mr Francis Yaw Gyarko, a founding member of the party and former District Chief Executive, for Techiman, who presided, commended the party faithful for working tirelessly towards the winning of the two constituencies in 2008 elections.

He asked the members to see themselves as one family and work towards the recapture of political power in 2008 since the NPP had failed the nation.

In an acceptance speech, Alhaji Yusufu Nasiru called for cooperation among party members and pledged that the executives would work towards retaining the two seats in the next general elections. 16 Aug. 05
