Technoserve gives credit to farmers in Gambaga

Gambaga (N/R), May 31, Tehnoserve, an NGO, had supported 446 farmers in the East Mamprusi District with credit facilities worth about 71 million cedis to enhance agricultural production and raise the standard of living of the people.

The support was also to assist the beneficiaries to purchase seeds and fertilizers and also pay for cost the of ploughing and extension assistance for efficient agricultural production. Mr. Amisum Anyoka, a Senior Programme Advisor of Technoserve, who disclosed this at Gambaga in the East Mamprusi District during the second ordinary meeting of the assembly said the organisation in its operation in the Northern Region had contributed immensely to support government's development agenda.

He said Tehnoserve in collaboration with the District Assembly had identified land preparation, lack of potable water and low literacy as having a negative impact on agricultural production in the area. Mr. Anyoka said Technoserve had, in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agricultural (MOFA) and the Savannah Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) conducted two multi-crop field demonstrations to disseminate improved farming practices to the benefit of farmers.

He added that a similar collaboration would be done this year at the demonstration centre at Langbinsi in the Mamprusi District so that farmers in the area and its surrounding communities could benefit from new ideas and technologies.
