Tehoda must be reinstated - Lawyer

The Lawyer for the former Deputy Head of the Commercial Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda, has said the recently issued threat by his client is a strategy intended to ultimately getting her reinstated.

DSP Tehoda threatened to name other top serving Police Officers who were involved in the cocaine turned baking soda case.

The Ghana Police Service has however maintained she will not be reinstated.

The lawyer, E.A Voduago said the truth must be revealed: “it’s part of the strategy because very clearly you can see the Ghana Police Service is portraying her as somebody who is responsible for swapping this cocaine exhibit. She has to come out in public to clear her name.”

“At the end of the day, the prosecution was not able to put any evidence before the court to prosecute her but what she meant by spilling the beans is that in the course of the criminal proceedings, new facts emerged from the investigations by the BNI and they got to know who was responsible for this swapping of the cocaine,” he explained.

Mr. Voduago continued, “the BNI recommended to the Attorney General to discontinue the proceedings against her, so she cannot be held for any malfeasance in this matter. If anything at all, it is the BNI that should be taken on for withholding relevant information from the public and also refusing to proceed when they got to know who was responsible for this criminality.”

He however stated that he and his client will be appearing in court on Wednesday.

He insisted that Ghanaians need to know who committed that crime because “it’s been over eight months.”

The Ghana Police Service has however refused to react to the story.
