Koforidua, July 9, GNA - The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has called on management of telecommunication companies to respect District Assembly bye laws and get the Assemblies involved when mounting telecommunication masts. He said this at the launch of the MTN Mobile Money in Koforidua on Thursday.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo congratulated MTN for the introduction of the Mobile Money project and their contributions tothe socio-economic development of the country. He appealed to MTN to help renovate the casualty ward of the Koforidua Regional Hospital and to adopt a ward as part of their social responsibility to the region. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the Regional Co-ordinating Council and the Ghana Library Board were involved in extending library facilities to the rural communities in the region and invited MTN with its nationwide network to assist in that programme.
In a speech read on his behalf the Senior Manager of the Mobile Money of MTN, Mr Samuel Turkson, said their system would not be limited to only a small section of the population. He said it was the aim of MTN to bring its Mobile Money service to the doorsteps of the people to enable people to send money to their children in boarding schools and relations in other regions through their phones. Mr Turkson said currently MTN was collaborating with nine banks to develop its Mobile Money service and to ensure that all transactions take place in utmost security.
