The Circuit Secretary of the Effiduase District of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) International in the Eastern Region, Elder Francis Owusu Acquah, has charged Christians in the country to desist from watching telenovelas.

According to the CAC Elder, telenovelas, which are daily serials and broadcast five or six times a week, both at prime time and during the day, are evil and devilish and have the propensity to lead Christians to hell.

He said this shortly after the centennial celebration of the church, which was concurrently celebrated nationwide and across the globe, on the theme “Impacting the word through Pentecostalism.”

Speaking to The Chronicle, Elder Owusu averred that, telenovelas such as Kumkum Bhagya’ are hindering the spiritual empowerment of Christians with its corresponding negative impact to Christian life. He has, therefore, called on Christians to regulate their time towards watching such programmes, and rather concentrate on their call.

Touching on the establishment of the church, he noted that the church was started at Anum Boso in the Eastern Region by Apostle Peter Newman Anim, somewhere in 1917.

“He started [it] as a prayer group, and in 1923, they were praying when fire came on the building they were worshipping in. The people around thought the place was getting burnt, so they came with water to quench the fire, but later realised it wasn’t a mere fire, but Heavenly fire.”

The Circuit Secretary reiterated that Apostle Anim worked very hard for the Church of God and now the church has grown and expanded in various countries such as China, England, and Togo among others.

Speaking on the theme, “Impacting the word through Pentecostalism,” he mentioned that children of God, especially women, spend more time watching telenovela than going to church to worship God.

“They rather worship telenovela’s instead of God. This is one of the way Satan is using to win souls for himself,” he said.
