Koku Anyidoho says the current state of Asomdwee park is shameful and disgraceful
Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has blamed the Akufo-Addo-led government for abandoning the Asomdwee park, where the remains of late president John Evans Atta Mills lies.
The Asomdwee Park which is Ghana’s first presidential mausoleum is in complete disarray. The tomb of Prof. Mills is said to have some parts of its fencing protecting it broken down and other auxiliary structures broken as well. The enclave is also bushy and a habitat for many animals.
Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Mr. Anyidoho said the state of the Asomdwee park is as a result of governments neglect of the necessary maintenance of the site.
“If government cannot take good care of the place then, they should declare it, because we know its the government`s responsibility, because even if you want to go there, you need to seek permission from the national security, so I can’t just go there, but in case government says it can’t do anything about it, then if they should leave it to individuals, I believe friends, family and loved ones will contribute to make it well” he told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei.
According to him, the current conditions of the `place is shameful and disgraceful as it does not speak well of the country.
“Professor Mills use to say that, a country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for, and seeing the gravesite of Prof Mills lie in such disgraceful manner, it means we are not honouring our heroes”.
He further expressed optimism in getting the mess at the place fixed next year to allow the late president rest in perfect peace as that will mark his seventh anniversary.
Today, July 24, 2018, marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.
The Late Professor died months away from completing his first term in office.
