Tema, April 21, GNA - Mr Solomon Odeefu Binfoh, the Assembly member for Union Electoral Area of Tema Community Seven, on Saturday appealed to the contractors in charge of refuse collection to collect them on scheduled days to rid the area of filth.

He complained that often times the refuse are deposited along the streets for days before they are collected and this posed health hazards to the residents.

Mr Binfoh said this after leading the residents in a four- hour cleaning exercise of the area.

With tools supplied by the Environmental and Waste Management Department of the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) they de-silted gutters, weeded and swept surroundings and demolished illegal structures. The TMA provided rakes, cutlasses, wheelbarrows, long brooms and Wellington boots.

Mr Binfoh appealed to the residents to honour their civic obligations by paying their refuse fees promptly to enable the contractors to collect the refuse as required. Touching on noise making in the area, he advised operators of drinking bars and those who organise functions in the night to cease making noise or face legal action.

He said some residents have complained about excessive noise making by people who wish to have fun to the detriment of the peace and health of the residents.

Mr Binfoh educated the residents on the benefits of the National Health Insurance Scheme and advised those who have still not registered to do so.
