Tema International School wins debate

Tema International School (TIS) emerged winners of the 5th annual debate, beating SOS International College initiated by the Rotary Club, Airport Chapter to advance sound argument on educative and intellectual discourse.

TIS had a total points of 357 from three judges and were presented with a plaque and set of fiction books while SOS International got 333 points, also receiving set of fiction books.

SOS International argued in favour of the topic: “Social Media has negatively impacted our Educational System and Cultural Value” while TIS argued against the motion.

Ms Opebia Sekyi Addo, Principal speaker for TIS, spoke about the importance of social media with reference to easy access to information for research while Ms Ivan Ofori, Principal Speaker for SOS College argued on the negative effects of social media resulting to sharing of nude pictures.

Mr Osei Kwame Agyeman, President of Rotary Club, Airport, said the initiate forms part of the Club project under literacy for private and public schools to improve effective education among communities.

Mr Agyeman said the debate provided platform for the students to express their argument on issues of national interest and expressed satisfaction at the turn of events, adding that there has been an improvement from previous debates.

He said the Club had donated assorted books to the Street Children Empowerment Foundation, a non-government organisation in Jamestown in Accra, to encourage the habit of reading among children in the area.

Mr Titi Ofei, Principal of SOS International College thanked the club for introducing the debate and commended both schools for the brilliance exchanges.

He gave the assurance that his outfit would continue to produce new generation of students for the debate.
