The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has said that former President John Mahama, who is the Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is only going through the motions with his campaign.

In a social media post, the MCE said the former President is aware of real statistics from secret polls that have been conducted to gauge the chances of candidates ahead of the elections and knows that the polls favour Dr. Bawumia as our next president.

“Mr. John Mahama is aware, that not only will Bawumia be victorious, but his victory will be mega,” the MCE wrote.

According to him “it is this same information that has informed former President Mahama’s refusal to engage in a debate with Dr. Bawumia.”

Apparently, many survey reports show that Dr. Bawumia is liked by the majority of swing voters, especially young people who are just turning 18 because of the digitalization agenda that the Vice President is championing.

However, a debate would have better contrasted Dr. Bawumia from Mr. Mahama and wooed even more undecided voters, especially older Ghanaians, for Dr. Bawumia.

“Mr. Mahama is aware of these polls and that is why he opted to avoid the debate with Dr. Bawumia,” the MCE said.

This notwithstanding, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey pointed out that Dr. Bawumia’s attractiveness to the majority of the youthful undecided voters remains.

“And for the older ones, Mr. Mahama’s refusal to engage in the beat has spelled it clear for them that Dr. Bawumia is the more genuine of the two candidates.

The MCE’s statement comes in the wake of rumours that National Security has conducted secret polls to gauge the chances of Dr. Bawumia and former President Mahama and that the results show Dr. Bawumia is ahead of John Mahama in opinion ratings.

According to the rumours, Dr. Bawumia would have won over even more undecided voters if he had debated former President John Mahama and put forward in clear terms, what the NPP government has done so that the many claims of Mr. Mahama against government could be deflated with facts.

However, Mr. Mahama has refused to debate Dr. Bawumia, claiming that the Vice President is a liar.

Many have wondered why Mr. Mahama would not take the opportunity of the debate to prove his claim that Dr. Bawumia is truly a liar.
