Tema, June 15, GNA - The Tema Police Command has pleaded with staff of health institutions and herbal centres to report to the police any person who visits their facility with a gunshot wound.

This followed the escape of three suspected robbers who sustained gunshot wounds after engaging the Police Highway Patrol Team in a shootout during a highway robbery attack at Shai Hills on the Tema/Ho highway.

Kofi Moses, a driver's mate was shot dead by the armed robbers and one of the armed robbers who lost his life during the shootout. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue.

Chief Inspector Olivia Turkson, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the incident occurred at about 0030 hours on Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Turkson said the four robbers, who were made up of three Fulanis and one Ghanaian, blocked the road at Shai Hills and attacked a Hundai H100 with registration number JT 6310-10.

She said the robbers robbed the 10 occupants of the vehicle of an unspecified amount of money. The passengers, who were returning from a crusade from Nyagbo near Hohoe to Gbetsiley near Ashaiman, were members of the Arise and Shine Ministry Church.

The robbers also ordered the driver of a Man Diesel truck, loaded with limestone from Boanya Quarry Construction heading towards Aflao Diamond Cement with registration number AS 7993-10, to stop but he refused.

This infuriated the suspected robbers who shot at the driver through the windscreen but missed him.

Chief Inspector Turkson said the robbers forced Moses out of the truck and shot at him when the truck stopped after they had fired into the windscreen.

She said upon the arrival of the Police Highway Patrol Team at the scene, the robbers engaged them in a shootout which led to the death of one of the robbers while the three escaped with gunshot wounds.

Chief Inspector Turkson said the Command and the Crime Fighters of the Police Head Quarters could be contacted on 0303-202936/7 and MTN short code 18555 respectively.
