Tema, June 1, GNA - The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 38- year-old poultry farmer, Douglas Kwaku Ansu, for duping his unsuspecting victims of monies totalling 24 million cedis. Police Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the GNA on Wednesday that in March 2005, Ansu relocated from Dormaa-Ahenkro to Tema Manhean and struck acquaintance with Mr Christopher Abayateye, owner of a communication centre.

He said Ansu after showing a clearing document and a list of imported goods bearing the name of Mr Thomas K. Gyabaa to Mr Abayateye and his wife, adopted fraudulent means and collected 10 million cedis to clear the goods with the promise of refunding it soon after delivery. Later, he said Ansu again boarded a commercial vehicle with one Nancy Eshun, who had interest in second hand clothing. She saw him (Ansu) reading through a list of goods and she developed interest in dealing with him.

After some discussions, Madam Eshun gave 4.9 million cedis to Ansu for the supply of second-hand clothing.

Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said Ansu adopted a similar style to defraud a couple of six million cedis, a hotelier of 1.2 million cedis, and a taxi driver of two million cedis for services rendered to him, which he never paid.

The PRO appealed to people, who have fallen victims to the fraudulent deals of Ansu to report to the Police for assistance and investigations. 1 June 05
