Tema Police arrests 11 suspected drug peddlers

Tema, April 06, GNA - Eleven suspects were arrested on Thursday in a joint police operation by Tema and Ashaiman police in a swoop to rid Tema Municipality of drug peddlers.

Police Chief Inspector Yaw Nketiah Yeboah of the Tema Police Public Affairs Directorate said the operation took place at Community one site two, site 20 and Harbour Container area.

He said Rashid Abdulai 20, was arrested with 63 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp while another quantity was found at a Gymnasium at site two.

Ibrahim Razak owner of the dried leaves together with two others Akagbo Davis 21, and Felix Kwaku 25, were arrested and assisting the police in investigations.

Other suspects arrested were, Richard Kogela, 19, Sumaila Awudu 42, Kwesi Mensah, Bukari Wonogo, Daniel Baney, Alhassan Hamma and Samuel Smith.

Police Chief Inspector Yeboah said the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations and pledged the commitment of the police to rid the municipality of criminals.

He said Edward Koomson 51, was also arrested during the swoop at community one for operating a video centre in his house without a licence.

In a related development, Ashaiman Police has mounted a search for one Ramatu who allegedly abducted a nine-year-old girl from Ashaiman and abandoned her at Gyakiti, near Akosombo.

Police Chief Inspector Yeboah said Ramatu asked the victim Diana Ackah for direction to a place but abducted her to Gyakiti and posed mother of Diana and sought assistance from the chief. He said the chief of Gyakiti had then travelled therefore, after a week Ramatu abandoned Diana and left.
