Drivers of private and commercial vehicles, on Tuesday appealed to Government to reconsider the relocation of the Tema Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office to Oyibi in the Damgbe East since May, this year..

The drivers on Tuesday thronged the premises of the Tema DVLA to renew their vehicle documentations, but they were told by officials of the Authority that the office had been relocated to Oyibi.

Some of the drivers, who spoke on anonymity, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they would go on a peaceful demonstration and withdraw their services in Tema if Government fails to meet their request.

They said the situation was aggravated by an increase in the cost of renewing road worthy certificate at the private garage located at Oyibi.

The drivers said they did not understand why vehicles could not be inspected at Tema yard which has adequate machines and equipment.

Madam Ama Bartels, who went to the Tema DVLA to renew her road worthy certificate, expressed disappointment at the development.

A car dealer, Michael Fiifi Bartler, said that Tema being a harbour city must not be denied car inspection and road worthy certificate offices, in view of the high number of vehicles that arrive at the harbour daily.**
