Ten perish in accident at Atwedie

Juaso (Ash), Feb.14, GNA - Ten persons on board a mini bus with registration number GT. 6659 Q died on the spot when their vehicle collided with a Bolgatanga bound bus at Atwedie near Asankare on the Kumasi-Accra Highway on Wednesday night. The only survivor on board the mini bus was a one-year-old baby girl. It took fire personnel from Konongo close to an hour to cut open the wreckage before removing the bodies of the driver and one passenger in the front seat.

Juaso (Ash), Feb.14, GNA - Ten persons on board a mini bus with registration number GT. 6659 Q died on the spot when their vehicle collided with a Bolgatanga bound bus at Atwedie near Asankare on the Kumasi-Accra Highway on Wednesday night. The only survivor on board the mini bus was a one-year-old baby girl. It took fire personnel from Konongo close to an hour to cut open the wreckage before removing the bodies of the driver and one passenger in the front seat. Assistant Superintendent of Police P.A. Ayisi told the Ghana News Agency that a cargo truck was parked with part of it very close to the main road. He said an OA Transport bus with registration number AS3551 Y which was heading towards Kumasi on reaching the spot slowed down to allow the mini bus to pass. Meanwhile, another bus which was behind the OA bus, impatiently overtook it resulting in a head on collision with the mini-bus killing 10 of the passengers on the spot. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue. The driver of the Bolgatanga bus absconded and police are making efforts to apprehend him.
