Tens of thousands of solar lamps were shared during Mahama’s dumsor – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Former Deputy Minister of Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has reacted to criticism that the John Dramani Mahama administration did nothing to address mitigate the power crisis that hit the nation, stressing that the government at the time provided tens of thousands of solar lamps to Ghanaians even as it worked tirelessly to end the power crisis.

His comment is a response to a challenge by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the former administration to mention the mitigating measures that were rolled out as Ghanaians bore the brunt of the crippling power outages (dumsor).

Kwakye Ofosu in an exchange on Facebook reminded Ghanaians that the John Mahama administration distributed solar lamps to Ghanaians during the power crisis.

The Vice President defended the robustness of Ghana’s current economy as compared to that under John Mahama explaining that the economy’s ability to contain mitigating measures, such as the provision of free water and subsidized electricity in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, is testament to its good health.

This explanation came after former President Mahama had argued that the current economy that had been touted as resilient has been exposed as one that was in dire straits after the coronavirus pandemic hit the country.

It will be recalled that in 2013 for instance, John Mahama’s administration distributed some ten thousand solar lamps to some households that had not been connected to the national grid.
