TENSION IS mounting at the Kpone/Katamanso constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) between the youth wing and some members of the executive who support the Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs, Hon. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, to stand as parliamentary candidate for the constituency, come 2004 elections.

Chronicle investigations can report that as a result, the youth wing has taken over the constituency office and barred the executives who support the minister from entering.

The executives include Solomon Appiah, chairman; Millicent Nuertekie, Dan Bonarparte and John Tetteh Akpo.

Chronicle further learnt that following a series of meetings between the minister and the family of the late Nene Sackey Odonkor, Jake will hire the house of the deceased to be used as private residence and offices.

The one-storey building "Victoriaburg" is located at Kpone new township, popularly called "Farm," near the Appollo Theatre. Mr. John Teye Doku, the youth organiser, who spoke to Chronicle, regretted that even though the honourable minister does not hail from Kpone some members of the executives are helping to impose him on the electorate.

"Apart from the fact that he does not have a house at Kpone, never resided here before and was the same person who asked for the population of Kpone because Mr. D. O Annan had filed his nomination papers to contest for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), we do not want him to break the front of the constituency and he should desist, to bring unity in our ranks," Doku stated.

Chronicle further learnt that the minister has been visiting some of the villages in the area with a view to familiarizing himself with the problems facing them in order to help address them.

A few elderly persons who confided in Chronicle for fear of being victimized by supporters of the minister summed it up: "We only saw this man here when they came to do politics and that has been a few times and we are alarmed that he claims his roots are from here."
