Tension is rising between staff and management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern following a decision to privatize the hospital’s laboratory.

The managing board is reportedly in talks to outsource the laboratory to a private company.

But the senior staff who are vehemently opposing the move went on a sit-down-strike Tuesday to register their displeasure.

One of the senior staff members who spoke to Starr News on condition of anonymity blamed management for the poor condition of the lab.

“The problem we have at the laboratory is a management problem. We have equipment that are not working and it is the responsibility of management to facilitate the repair of those machines. We do not have the needed chemicals to work, it is the job of management to make sure that these things are provided.

“Almost everything at the hospital has failed. Every department has failed, there is no water, gloves and many other things to work with. We will do everything within the remit of the law to ensure that the laboratory is not privatised,” he said.
