With 89 days to the general elections, political tension is rearing its ugly head in the Ablekuma West Constituency of the Greater Accra Region as people start defacing political posters.

A victim of the defacing is the Independent Parliamentary candidate of the area. Posters of Theophilus Nii Ayerkwei Tetteh who broke away from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest the seat as independent candidate have been defaced.

This has created some level of tension in the constituency, with the supporters of Mr. Ayerkwei Tetteh wondering who might be behind the defacing of the posters.

Theophilus Tetteh, a former Ablekuma-West Parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently declared his intention to contest the December polls as an independent candidate due to what he termed as unfair treatment by the party national, regional and constituency executives.

Mr. Tetteh, who is a former Chairman of the party in the constituency, bowed out of the NPP’s parliamentary primary race after accusing the incumbent MP, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful of manipulating the process during the party’s primary.

His decision was also informed by the National Executive Committee’s decision to allow two registers to be used for the primary in the constituency.
