There is mounting tension in the Ada East District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, as President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the District Chief Executive position, Sarah Dugbakie Pobee appears before members for another round of voting.

The nominee failed to secure the required two-thirds of the total votes cast during the second round of voting on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 as she polled 19 out of a total of 36 votes, representing 52 per cent.

Tomorrow will be her third attempt to secure the approval of the assembly for the job of DCE.

As Ms. Pobee appears before the Assembly again for the determination of her fate, reports are emerging that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are threatening members of the Assembly to coerce them into accepting the President’s nominee.

Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that a number of the Assembly Members have been promised an amount of GHC5,000 to influence their votes. Sources also spoke of plans to stuff the ballot boxes in favour of the nominee.

There is reliable information that a number of Police Officers, NPP Invisible Forces and the National Security agents are being dispatched to the area to intimidate assembly members into accepting the nominee.

One assembly man actually claimed that he had been threatened with abduction to prevent him from attending the session to vote against the nominee.

Reports suggest that high profile officials of the women’s wing of the NPP will be in Ada tomorrow to ensure Ms. Pobee finally gets the nod as DCE for the Ada East District Assembly.
