Nkaseim (B/A) Feb. 24, GNA - Tension is mounting at Nkaseim in the Asutifi District of Brong Ahafo over the right of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited to prospect for gold in the area.
Residents of the town, especially the youth, have expressed their indignation at the concession granted the company and have vowed to frustrate the company's efforts, even by any means, if need be.
About 10 residents, who were given the chance to ask questions at a recent peace forum organized by the chiefs and religious leaders of the town all threatened that the youth would ensure that no mining activity was allowed in the area.
The forum was aimed at smothering an impasse between the traditional authorities and the youth and also among supporters and members of political parties.
Last year, the youth in Kenyasi and Nkaseim staged a violent demonstration against the activities of Newmont and accused the traditional authorities of treachery.
Even though the problem in Kenyasi has partially been resolved with the company pledging to recruit the bulk of its labour force from the town, the issue is yet to receive any compromise in Nkaseim.
