Kasoa (C/R), Sept 24, GNA - Supporters of the Kasoa branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have appealed to the National and Central Regional executives of the party to intervene to diffuse tension mounting in the party.

The supporters claim there was anger following the non- transparent and unfair manner in which people were being selected to contest the position of polling station executives scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Mr John Opoku, a member of the party, made the allegation at an emergency meeting at Kasoa on Wednesday on behalf of the supporters. He cautioned that if the top hierarchy of NPP failed to address the matter they would take legal action to restrain the executives from conducting the elections.

Mr Opoku said the executives had flouted the amendment that was made to the party's constitution at its delegates' conference held in Accra recently.

The new amendment states that five executives and two elders from each polling station are to be selected and voted on by registered members.

He alleged that the executive were going round to register only their favourites.

Mr Opoku alleged that 580 nomination forms brought by the national executive of the party to the constituency executives were being distributed to their favourites and a few others. Alhaji Mohammed Issifu, Chairman of the Kasoa Datus branch of the party, said the executives had made it impossible for most supporters to register at polling stations in the area. Mr E. Boateng, Constituency Chairman of the party, denied that they were refusing members to register. He told the GNA in a telephone interview that some top officials of the party in the constituency wishing to become Member of Parliament for the area were the people trying to sow disunity in the party.
