Disqualified flag bearer of the Democratic People's Party (DPP), T.N Ward-Brew, has said the increasing tension in the country forced him to seek an injunction on the 7 December elections.

Mr Ward-Brew, who failed to take advantage of the extended nomination period to correct errors on his nomination forms because he was outside the country, applied to the Supreme Court, praying for an extension but that request was dismissed on Wednesday 23 November.

But speaking to Class News in an interview, Mr Ward-Brew disclosed that the reason for going to court was to seek to defuse the tension ahead of the polls.

“I think that there is so much…tension. We have to find a way of telling people to be very careful because if we don’t control it and there is any explosion, it will worry all of us. So I thought that sometimes when two people are tense, you only have to separate them before there will be a confrontation,” he stated.

“…This is not the first time an election like that has been postponed because if you see violence here and violence there and the election is postponed, what happens? They will stop. The atmosphere in the country must change. This year in particular, we haven’t been very fortunate. Some of the disqualified groups and all that are creating so much disparity. When I look at the tension in the country, the campaigns and all have become so emotional,” he added.
