The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support the party has consistently received from the Volta Region.

During a campaign stop in the region as part of the NDC flagbearer’s ongoing tour, Mr. Mahama thanked the people for consistently delivering the highest percentage of votes for the NDC in every general election since the establishment of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

“We want to thank the Volta Region for standing behind the NDC over the years. We don’t take your support for granted,” Mr. Mahama affirmed.

He emphasized that the NDC’s designation of the Volta Region as its “World Bank” is not just a label but a testament to the region's unmatched loyalty in percentage terms.

“We call Volta Region the World Bank not because your votes are the highest in nominal terms... but when it comes to percentage terms, no region comes close to Volta Region,” he explained.

Mr. Mahama highlighted the significant development projects the NDC has initiated in the region, pointing to investments in education, healthcare, transportation, road infrastructure, sanitation, water, and agriculture.

He stressed the transformative impact these initiatives have had on the lives of the people, noting: “You can’t quantify the level of transformation it has had on the lives of the people.”

However, Mr. Mahama criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for abandoning projects started by the NDC, to the detriment of the region’s residents.

He accused the NPP of resorting to propaganda and short-term financial inducements to sway voters, a tactic he warned could be deceptive.

“They will come and point to you, ‘you see this one since he joined NPP, you see his life has changed, you have been following NDC, what have you got?’” Mr. Mahama lamented, urging voters not to fall for these tactics.

As the December 7th elections approach, Mr. Mahama urged the electorate to resist vote-buying attempts, reminding them of the hardships they have endured over the past eight years under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

“They will ask for your Mobile Money numbers, MoMo, and then they will put 200 and 500 for you. But remember that you have lived 8 years of poverty, 8 years of hardships, and that whatever money they give you will not alleviate the crisis into which they have plunged you,” he cautioned.

Looking to the future, Mr. Mahama promised that an NDC government would continue its infrastructure development agenda in the Volta Region, with a particular focus on tourism, agriculture, and industry to create jobs.

He also pledged to build modern markets, including a major market in Aflao, to boost trade and improve livelihoods.

Mr. Mahama also assured the people that the NDC would implement a homegrown fiscal consolidation program to help revive Ghana’s economy.
