As World Blood Donor Day is being celebrated Sunday, June 14, 2020, across the globe, Ghana Blood Foundation has taken the opportunity to appreciate voluntary donors for their selfless actions to donate blood on a regular basis to save lives.

In a press release, the Chairman of the Foundation, Frank Gadzekpo, noted that irrespective of the coronavirus scare in the country, these donors still visit blood centers to make a donation.

“As Ghana joins the rest of the World to celebrate World Blood Donor Day, the Board of Trustees of the Ghana Blood Foundation wishes to congratulate all voluntary blood donors for their selfless commitment to donate blood on a regular basis,” he said.

Speaking on the slogan, 'Give blood to make the world a healthier place to live', Mr. Gadzekpo called on government, corporate agencies, and civil society groups to also contribute to saving lives with blood as blood safety is a shared responsibility.

Public Relations Officer of the National Blood Service Ghana, Stephen Addai-Baah also appreciated donors for saving many people from death, stating that, “If there’s no blood, it means more deaths will be recorded”.

He also asked Ghanaians to be “conscious of the fact that blood is a drug. It’s just like any other drug that the patient needs to survive".

World Blood Donor Day is observed every June 14 worldwide. This day creates awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products, as well as thank blood donors for their contribution to saving lives with blood.
