The 1993 Year Group of the Old Achimotan Association has handed over refurbished offices and archives to the school as part of activities marking their 25th anniversary after leaving school.

Antoinette Kwofie, President of the 1993 Year Group, said the group chose to build a digital system that would make it easier for the school authorities to store and retrieve records, instead of the current manual system, which takes a long time to get records when needed.

She said keeping records in good shape was very important and should be a top priority for every institution, adding that, the current manual system in the school makes retrieval of students’ records difficult.

“So we settled on archiving and digitization as our legacy project to provide an orderly way of storing and retrieving records so that at a touch of a button the administrator can find out which roll to find a piece of record and to pull it out,” Ms Kwofie said. Also, the year group, aside refurbishing the archives and providing a well-structured archiving system, also refurbished the administration block’s General Offices.'

Mr Kwaku Agbesi, Project Manager, 1993 year group, said the group chose as its legacy project, to make students records paperless and digital to ensure efficient administrative process.

“So one of our course mates’ designed a system, which would take the students records electronically. We are also archiving all old students’ records, but these are yet to be digitized and we are hopeful that it should be completed in a couple of years,” he said.

The group also provided 15 computers, furniture, air conditioners and also painted the offices.

Mrs Joyce Addo, Headmistress Achimota School, lauded the 1993 old students for the project and said due to challenges of space and preservation associated with archives, its modernization was most welcomed.

Mr Osei Kwame Agyeman, Board Chairman, Achimota School, thanked the group for the support.
