Tamale, Feb. 01,GNA -Two thousand students from 33 schools in the three Northern Regions are to benefit from an exchange learning programme= with British schools and students.
The aim is to get schools from the three Northern Regions linked-up to schools in Britain to learn and share experiences on educational, peace a= nd security issues as well as global trends to bring those students at par w= ith their counterparts in the UK. The Country Director of Childreach International, Mr. Frederick Sarf= o who was addressing a workshop for sixty teachers said that the British Council through its Global School Partnership in collaboration with Childreach International would see to the implementation of the programme= .. The Teachers had been selected for the Global School Partnership to serve as a communication link between the students in Britain and Ghana teachers as they would be given the opportunity to travel to the UK and learn from those schools and impart the experiences back home.
He said the programme would also improve the standard of education i= n the participating schools since the student's cognitive abilities would b= e enhanced and given a global perspective resulting in personal confidence and resolution. Mr. Sarfo said Childreach International aims at reducing poverty in the three Northern Regions through the delivery of education to its remote pa= rts It was currently working in the Savelugu/Nangton areas and intends t= o extend its programmes to other parts of the North soon.
Mrs. Bridget Konadu Gyamfi, the Programme Coordinator for Global Sch= ool of the British Council, said since the introduction of the programme in 2003, 280 schools in the country have so far benefited and has improved t= he performance of those schools. She said the programme makes children know much about their immediate=
environment and global issues to make them global citizens and enhanced their analytical abilities. Mrs. Gyamfi said every year, about 150 teachers are sent to the UK on=
the exchange programme making them share cultures that enhance learning o= f both countries.
