The Methodist Church needs to do more for her youth-Afrifa-Kyei

Sunyani (B/A) Mar. 25,GNA - Mr. Joel Afrifa-Kyei, Sunyani Circuit Youth Organiser of the Methodist Church, has scolded the leadership of the church for "not doing enough to encourage and support the youth in the church to take their rightful places in society." He said some of the youth had engaged themselves in various anti-social and immoral practices such as gambling, alcoholism and indecent dressing to the detriment of their holistic development. Mr. Afrifa-Kyei was speaking at the end of this year's Youth and Student's assembly of the Youth Ministries Division of the church in Sunyani.

The biennial event which was under the theme: "Integrity - Our Way of Life", was attended by more than 150 young people from the various societies of the Sunyani Circuit of the Church. Mr. Afrifa-Kyei deplored the attitude of some of the youth who resorted to the "get-rich-quick methods" popularly known as "sakawa" to attain riches and power.

"I wonder why everyone wants to be rich overnight", he said and added that: "the usual old saying that a good name is better than riches is no-more on our lips" Mr. Afrifa-Kyei emphasized that each person is endowed by God a talent that needed to be nurtured and developed for the benefit of society and advised the youth to have confidence in themselves at all times in order to succeed in life.

Rev. Jonathan Aduse-Poku, Sunyani Diocesan Youth Organiser, called on the youth to commit themselves to the teachings of the Bible and endeavour to lead godly lifestyles. He advised the youth against sexual immorality and any act that could ruin them both spiritually and physically. At the end of the 3-day conference, the Emmanuel Methodist Church at Tanoso, near Sunyani emerged the best behaved society. The church also came first in a Bible quiz competition. The Wesley Cathedral in Sunyani and the Calvary Methodist Church at Sunyani Tonsoum Estate, emerged second and third respectively in the quiz.
