A Deputy National Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril has suggested that, the police has seized working after the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was sworn into office.
His comments follows the attacks on the regional security coordinator for Kumasi be the Delta Force and other related matters.
‘’The police has seized working after the NPP won the elections. They are not working as they should and for me, I see danger ahead.
He said, the NDC should also not be drawn into the issues of vigilante groups owned and sponsored by political parties since they have consistently condemned it.
According to him, the President has failed to crack the whip on these groups because he has used them as his bodyguards. ''They go everywhere in his campaign. A group like the Invincible Forces followed Nana Addo everywhere.
He used them as his bodyguards so he is finding it difficult to disband them.’’ Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tutu, host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Mr. Gibril said, the president is looking on helplessly because he is in support of them.
The failure to disband the groups he noted shows that we have an incompetent leader in the realm of affairs. ‘’They are telling the president that he is incompetent.
They are now dictating to the president. They are telling the president that he cannot appoint anyone but their choice. What is happening? ‘’The NDC cannot be drawn into this vigilante groups. We do not condone such lawlessness as a political party,’’ he added.
Madi Gibril said, the Invincible Forces are located in every region and go about engaging in lawlessness because we have a leader who believes in lawlessness and illegality.
In a barrage of questions, Gibril asked: ‘’why should a police officer be attacked? Why should vigilante groups unleash mayhem on innocent Ghanaians? Why should illegal groups continue to attack people under the watch of the president who promised to protect Ghanaians? ‘
’If a vigilante group could attack and take a security coordinator out of his office, what will be our fate as Ghanaians?
We can no longer sit on radio and talk about the NPP. This is not a political matter but a national one. We left Ghana in peace into the hands of Nana Addo but the country is now under threat because of his failure to deal with issue.
Everywhere the NPP goes, blood flows. Is that what we voted for? Is that the kind of leader we elected to govern us? It means we have a bad leader; and a political party who told us that, there are coming to protect us. The NDC does not condone that and we will not condone it.’’
He added: ‘’It couldn’t have happened anywhere, especially when we have a Minister in charge of National Security. We are no longer safe.’’
