The Press Foundation officially launched

Hundreds of stakeholders in the media, drawn from, journalists, student journalists, Corporate Public Relations practitioners, politicians, tractional rulers as well as showbiz stars, on Friday thronged the Golden Tulip Kumasi City to witness the launch of the media NGO, "The Press Foundation" (TPF).

The Executive Director of the TPF, Mr. Listowell Yesu Bukarson lamented the continuous dwindling fortunes of journalists in Ghana.

"Its a shame how the media have been taken for granted in recent times," he said.

Adding that, "Its time for the media to position itself to be recognized as core stakeholders in the national development agenda."

He charged the media to endeavor to practice in the spirit of the ethics of what he called, "enviable profession of the inky fraternity."

Mr. Bukarson indicated that the TPF will work assiduously to ensure journalists in Ghana enjoy incentives such as training, workshops, conferences, seminars, symposia and exchange programs.

Stressing that, "the TPF would work in collaboration with corporate Ghana to ensure the media profit from insurance packages, medical aid, legal aid, pension schemes, and an awards night."

"We will soon launch a Media Fund as we embark on intensive advocacy for the media," He revealed.

Former morning show host of Joy FM, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former IBF champion of the world, Joseph Kingkong Agbeko, Actress and radio host Naana Hayford Dumfe, were there to grace the launch.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Mr. Okumah Nyame represented the Mayor, Hon. Kojo Bonsu.

The Asantehene's Mawerehene Bafour Osei Brantuo VI was chairman for the historic launch.
